About Me

duds (64K) Who?

My name is Duds Daquilanea of Iloilo City, Philippines. 30ish, undomesticated and undefined deity.

What?

I love to write, read, build, form, construct, and examine. My hobbies expand according to moods: photography, drawing, cross-stitch, graphics editing. I've been making websites and print images for four years. I've mastered Photoshop, html and css and I’m getting my feet wet on flash, javascript, php and asp. I always say, learning stops only when life stops. I love creating things out of scratch or getting new ideas and producing whole new templates. Truth be told, my left brain works better than my right, but a good work out between the two has produced great results.

How?

Born the 5th child of 7 and sandwiched between two aggressive sisters, I grew up with a lot of imagination. I was lucky enough to experience middle class. Because we couldn't afford expensive toys, I was turning bottles into action figures, books into dollhouses, kamote (sweet potatoes) into pizza pie with Chippy toppings, plastic tea sets into knobs for spaceships and floors into gurgling lava. I had my share of blanket tents and caves of overturned beds and chairs. My parents raised me and my siblings to have a genuine curiosity for life. I have a reputation for being too detailed and I secretly believe I'm an undiagnosed obsessive-compulsive. I’d be willing to try anything at least once … except broccoli. I generally have fanciful dreams, most of it I blame on television and books. Everything I learned as a child is a result of the wonderful world of Disney, Bugs Bunny and Super Grover. So it is no surprise that at my age, I’m turning into a cartoon character.

What is a Graphic Artist?

artist (6K)

A graphic artist creates visual presentations of ordinary words and ideas that are appealing and effectively convey them in print and on the web. It is the field for creative typography and aesthetically pleasing layouts and design.

Today’s graphic artist has a good sense of composition. He must also have skills to manipulate photographs and images and look for creative ways to make his work more inspiring and interesting to his readers or viewers.

We are commercial artists, working with digital media – whose main purpose is to express a mood or emotion. We do most of our work on computers and we find inspiration in the oddest of things. We innovate by moving boundaries principally within ourselves and try to transcend the conventional yet deliver an end-result that will answer our customer’s key needs.

Work_of_art (5K) It has to be understood that a graphic designers do not have their own style. We are limited with the requirements of production and that will always restrict our artistic expression. Our job is to provide the idea that would fit our client’s view of his company and what his goals are. Graphic artists are craftsmen who compose visual material for printing or digital display. This includes magazine ads, websites, brochures, letterheads, logos and visual presentations – anything that would identify a company for its contribution to the world.

What is Graphic Design

Kizia

Graphic design is a form of communicating visually using text and/or images to present information, or promote a message. It embraces a range of perceptive skills and craft such as typography, image development and page layout. Like other forms of communication, graphic design often refers to both the process and products. It concerns itself in creative solutions for imagery and multimedia compositions. By tradition, graphic design is only applied to print media: books, magazines and brochures. In the advent of computers, graphic designs are being used in digital and electronic media.

There are varying degrees in designing graphics. As a commercial art, a client usually haves an initial idea. It may range from verbally communicated ideas, to rough visual drafts, to a finished product. Client edits, technical preparation and mass production are usually required. Computers, peripherals and software applications are the more effective tools used in graphic design. It is indispensable to a web designer. They allow designers to experiment and explore different ideas quickly and as a result, hasten the creative process. A graphic designer may use sketches to investigate complex ideas with potential distractions of software technical difficulties.

Working with a Graphic Artist

How much does a Graphic Artist Cost?

There is a very wide range of fees charged by various graphic artists. Full corporate communications packages can run into the hundreds of thousands of pesos.

Smaller firms, especially independent freelance graphic artists will charge considerably less. That same website treatment can be had for a few hundred pesos. The fact is, there is a huge range or prices available and there are very talented artists available to fit every budget.

How to work with a Graphic Artist girltyping (14K)

You can start by planning out exactly how the two of you will be working together. Don't be afraid to set ground rules and above all, write down what has been agreed to. More client/artist relationships get into trouble from not agreeing to things up front than any issues with the design itself.

Here is a piece of information for you from the graphic artist's side. Most of them, especially the freelance ones, are terrified of never ending changes. These are little updates that quickly add up to a lot of time being wasted and usually a worse design than you started with. While you may think your getting a better deal and more work out of the artist, what really happens is both of you end up with a relationship that is breaking down and costs that are piling up!
